Diana Copperwhite on painting

`I remember visits to the national art gallery in Dublin and looking closely at the surface of paintings realizing that they were fragile and made by the human hand.’ ~ Diana Copperwhite

  1. This comment reminds me of my first visit to an art gallery (either the Whitworth or Manchester Art Gallery – we went to both on an Art School visit in 1974). I remember looking at a small Camille Pissarro landscape. The paint was thick and lumpy – very physical. Compared to the reproductions in books that I had only ever seen before, this was a revelation. Painting was about more than image.
